Similar but slightly different is my comment about a mix of ActiveRecord/ActiveModel in a nested form. Created a separate suggestion for that in case it proves too involved for this episode.

If you do this mix in an ActiveModel object as one of the nested objects. I currently have a User signup form that builds a User ActiveRecord, a nested Address (ActiveRecord) and a nested CreditCard (ActiveModel). I found getting the nested ActiveModel to play nice a bit of a challenge.
